Reuters reports that China has approved HP Inc.’s $1.1 billion purchase of Samsung’s printer business, with the caveat that HP must not buy stakes in any other A4 printer manufacturers in China, even if they are a minority equity investment.
The statement issued by China’s Ministry of Commerce mandates “fair and reasonable conditions of delivery of A4 laser printer products,” and says HP must report their prices and related data to the ministry every six months.
The statement also stays HP must not adapt its printers to restrict compatibility with third parties, or claim in advertising that its printers are not compatible with other suppliers.
HP Inc. expects the deal to close by December 31.
