Denver, CO – August 25, 2015 – Publication Printers, one of the leading commercial printers in the United States, has become an authorized distribution partner of the PrintReleaf Exchange [PRX], the first technology platform to enable cloud-based paper measurement and reforestation. This strategic partnership allows the company to provide its network of publishers and print brokers with an innovative and authentic way to promote sustainable business practices and reduce the environmental impacts that can result from the use of forest products, such as printing.
With PRX, customers “releaf,” or reforest, their paper consumption by planting new trees – equivalent to their paper use – at global reforestation project sites of their choice. Through Print PrintReleaf’s integration with Global Forest Watch, a platform hosted by the World Resources Institute, customer’s interface with heat map technology that represents forest loss and gain across the globe, showing them which areas the planet needs trees most. PrintReleaf reforests at a generally accepted rate of 8,333 sheets of paper per tree (this equation is detailed in PrintReleaf’s global standard for sustainability). After selecting where they want their paper releafed, customers can use their online portal to track the evolution, growth, and survival of their trees over an approximate eight-year time frame for each tree.
Since the launch of PrintReleaf about a year ago, the company has measured more than 334 million pages and releafed over 40,000 trees.
“For Publication Printers, partnering with PrintReleaf was an easy decision," said Kerri Rosenberg-Hallet, Director of Marketing for Publication Printers. "For years publishers have wanted to offset their forest impact by using recycled paper or sustainably certified paper. Unfortunately those options have long been cost-prohibitive for most magazine publishers and they have also been more expensive for us to manage internally. All of those hurdles disappear with PrintReleaf and what we are left with is an extraordinarily simple, earth-friendly solution. This partnership is easily a win-win for all parties and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
“The commercial printing market presents an enormous opportunity. We wanted to enter it with Publication Printers given their stellar reputation, market leadership position, and because we could work locally with their team,” said Jordan Darragh, PrintReleaf's CEO. “After only a few months, we’re already ‘releafing’ thirty unique publications and positioned to ‘releaf’ many more.”
This partnership also provides Publication Printers’ brokers and publishers with the option to integrate social media, automatically sharing monthly Twitter and Facebook announcements of releaf transactions that promote active participation in sustainable business practices.
