Summary

HP LaserJet Enterprise 600On November 1, HP released its eight-model LaserJet Enterprise 600 M600 A4 monochrome laser printer series. The firm says the machines are designed to support medium to large workgroups with high-volume print environments. The new machines are based on the same basic print technology employed by their predecessors, the LaserJet P4000 family, which includes the LaserJet P4014, P4015 and P4515. The engine was also leveraged for HP’s new LaserJet Enterprise M4555 MFP family. The new LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601 model offers the same 45-page-per-minute print speed as the P4014, which it replaces. Likewise and the new M602 matches the top speed of the 52-ppm P4015, which will be retired, and the M603 is a 62-ppm replacement for the P4515. While the printing speeds are the same, the engine in the newer units has been enhanced with HP FutureSmart firmware and a faster processor. Outside, the new line has also been updated with user-friendly features like a new four-line graphical color display and walk-up USB printing.

The LaserJet Enterprise 600 M600 family does not use the cartridges found in the line of machines it replaces. Instead, HP deployed the newer supplies that debuted in the LaserJet Enterprise M4555, which include the HP 90A and90X toner cartridges. The lower yield 90A is capable of printing 10,000 pages, and the high yield 90X delivers 24,000 pages. The machines also require a maintenance kit every 225,000 pages. Like the M4555, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M600 A4 monochrome laser printer series offers a best CPP of 1.2 cents based on the cost of the high-yield toner only.

Presumably, the new monochrome units will be featured in HP's growing MPS program. We think the line will be popular. It has low operating costs and a host of options. HP offers a wide assortment of accessories so machines can be tailored to meet each customers needs. Similary, the firm provides a number of different warranty programs for the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M600 line.
