Summary

Toshiba eStudio4530cToshiba America Business Solutions (TABS) is replacing its e-STUDIO 2330c, 2830c, 3530c and 4520c with the new e-STUDIO 4540c line, which includes the e-STUDIO 2040c, 2540c, 3040c, 3540c and 4540c. The new machines are based on technology similar to that found in their predecessors but upgraded with Toshiba's new generation e-BRIDGE architecture. The Linux-based e-Bridge technology includes e-BRIDGE Fleet Management System v.5.1 for managing and setting up multiple devices; a new Universal Print Driver; e-BRIDGE Open Platform for integrating with document capture, workflow, and cost accounting solutions, as well as scanning documents to cloud-based services; and more standard security features. Each machine comes standard with two 550-sheet universal paper trays and a 100-sheet bypass tray. Two additional 550-sheet cassettes can be added to one of the new devices as well as a 2,500-sheet large-capacity feeder for a maximum capacity of 3,700 sheets. TABS also markets an assortment of optional finishing package for the new 4540c line.

The new e-STUDIO 4540c family employs new supplies with improved yields and TABS claims they are more efficient, generating less waste, than those used in previous models. All of the new color MFPs use conventional ground toner manufactured at the Toshiba plant in South Dakota. Each model uses its own dedicated set of toner cartridges, developers, imaging drums and fuser units except for the e-STUDIO 3540c and 4540c, which share the same supplies. Like many copier manufacturers, TABS does not offer list pricing for its consumables. TABS' new e-STUDIO 4540c line will face stiff competition. Most hardware vendors offer machines in the categories the new e-STUDIO devices represent. Canon, for example, has its imageRUNNER ADVANCE C2020, C2030, C5030, C5035, C5045, C5051 and C7055 machines; Konica Minolta markets the bizhub C220, C280, C360, C452, C552 and C652; while Kyocera Mita sells the TASKalfa 205c, 255c, 250ci, 3050ci, 3550ci, 4550ci, 5550ci, 65550ci and 7550ci. Similarly, Ricoh markets the Aficio MP C2030, C2051, C2551, C3001, C3501, C4501, C5501, C6501SP and C7501SP; Sharp has its MX-2610N, MX-3110N, MX-3610N, MX-4101N, MX-5500N, MX-6201N and MX-7001N; and Xerox competes in the space with its WorkCentre 7120, 7525, 7530, 7535, 7545, 7556, 7755, 7765 and 7775 units.
